The KW Spee Keasy:
Community Homebrewing in Kitchener/Waterloo
The KW Spee Keasy is a community supported homebrewing collective. We share the cost of brewing equipment and ingredients so that we can all enjoy great homemade craft beer. This sharing has allowed us to expand our production and increase quality more quickly than if we were brewing in isolation. Recipe development is led by the collective’s founder, Jon “Kitchener” Spee, but brewing is done collaboratively.
Some of Our Brews:
- CanucK Walrus Pale Ale
- KWucifer Belgian Golden Ale
- KWite Rye’t Ale
- HefeKWeizen Summer Wheat
- StucK Wagon IPA
- K-Wee Heavy
- KW Spee Keasy supPorter
- BlacK Wagon Oatmeal Stout
- Acorn E. KWistmas Ale (Seasonal)

“CanucK Walrus Pale Ale” ………………………………………………………………………….. $40
Big aroma like a walrus, yet friendly like a Canuck. A refreshing Pale Ale, made in the West Coast style, with plenty of hops to smell and taste. More ‘hoppy” than its English ancestor, the English Pale Ale, but smooth enough to still be easy-drinking.
OG: 1.049 – IBU: 36 – ABV: 5.0 %
“BlacK Wagon Oatmeal Stout”……………………………………………………………………..$40
Made with the same oats that are fueling the horses pulling those black wagons you see around the Waterloo Region. A beautiful, dark black stout that is less dry and bitter than a typical Irish Stout. The oatmeal adds a silky smoothness to this brew, accompanied by notes of coffee and caramel.
OG: 1.050 – IBU: 30 – ABV: 4.6%
“The SupPorter”…………………………………………………………………………………………..$45
This is the beer that will make your friends want to support your homebrewing operation. A very robust porter—higher in pretty much everything than a normal porter—yet still very smooth, with full body. Pours a creamy dark brown colour, with hints of chocolate and vanilla.
OG: 1.063 – IBU: 44 – ABV: 6.1%
Question: is your location open for people to come and browse, also what are your Saturday hours if that is the case? I’d like to look over malt extract/beer making supplies if that is possible.
Hi Paul,
Great question! Basically this is a home-based operation at this point so I don’t have everything set up in a “browsable” state, but I’d be happy to show you what I’ve got. Take a look at this page for specifics of what is in stock: Local Kitchener’s Homebrew Supplies.
I don’t have “hours” but let me know when you’d like to come by (just shoot me an email: localkitchener@gmail.com) and we’ll make it work!
I assume these kits make the usual 5 gallons of beer?
